Windshield survey written assignment

Conduct a windshield survey to identify a population and its primary health concern. Develop a 3–5-page report that explains demographic changes for a population and describes the health disparities and social determinants of health that can affect the population.

**Central Florida United States community**

Requirements

  • Conduct the windshield survey, using the template attached.
  • Use the template as a guide to write a report for your team. If possible, look at other written documents used within your organization. How are they formatted? Follow that format as closely as possible, making sure you still use APA guidelines for your in-text references, citations, and reference page.

Based on your observations and notes from your survey experience, write a report that includes the following:

  • Describe, briefly, the neighborhood or community you observed (overall condition, types of spaces and businesses, evidence of services, and so forth).
  • Describe a vulnerable or diverse population you observed living within the neighborhood or community.

Now you will need to do some research on the population you described:

  • Explain how the demographics for the population have changed over the past 5–10 years. Note: This information should be readily available through the United States Census Bureau, similar state Web sites, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, or other professional sites. Be sure your information is current.
  • Describe the most prevalent health risks for the population. For example, if your population is senior citizens, then the health risks might be diabetes and loss of mobility. Include statistics on the health risks, such as frequency of occurrence in the population and number of deaths per year in the population.
  • Identify the health disparities and social determinants of health that can affect the population. In other words, what will you need to overcome to develop a successful health promotion and disease prevention program for the population?

Your completed assessment should be 3–5 pages in length, not including the title page and reference page. Support your information with references to at least three professional, scholarly, or government resources, and follow current APA guidelines for your in-text citations and references.

Additional Requirements

  • Include a title page and reference page. The completed assessment should be 3–5 pages in length, not including the title page and reference page.
  • Reference at least three current scholarly, professional, or government resources.
  • Use current APA format for citations and references.
  • Use Times New Roman font, 12 point.
  • Double spaced

The Pathophysiology of Disorders (Develop a 5- to 10-slide PowerPoint presentation)

The Pathophysiology of Disorders

During the last 5 weeks, you have explored various body systems: neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory, and hematological. These four systems work together along with other body systems to complete a myriad of functions. For this reason, when disorders occur within one body system, it can create potentially devastating effects throughout the entire body. For instance, Parkinson’s disease is a disorder of the central nervous system, yet its alterations actually affect multiple body systems from the cardiovascular system to the gastrointestinal system. In this Assignment, you examine alterations associated with disorders, as well as the impact of the alterations on multiple body systems.

To Prepare

· From the list below, select a disorder of interest to you:

o Alzheimer’s disease

o Asthma in children

o Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

o Congestive heart failure

o Hepatic disease (liver disease)

o Hypertension (Please select this)

o Hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism

o Seizures

o Sepsis

· Identify alterations associated with your selected disorder. Consider the pathophysiology of the alterations. Think about how these alterations produce pathophysiological changes in at least two body systems.

· Reflect on how patient factors such as genetics, gender, ethnicity, age, and behavior might impact the pathophysiology of the alterations you identified, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of your selected disorder.

· Review the “Mind maps—Dementia, Endocarditis, and Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)” media in the Week 2 Learning Resources. Use the examples in the media as a guide to construct a mind map for the disorder you selected. Consider the epidemiology and clinical presentation of your selected disorder. See attached file

To Complete

Develop a 5- to 10-slide PowerPoint presentation that addresses the following:

· Describe your selected disorder, as well as associated alterations. Explain the pathophysiology of the alterations, including changes that occur in at least two body systems.

· Explain how genetics, gender, ethnicity, age, and behavior might impact the pathophysiology of the alterations you identified, as well as diagnosis and treatment of your selected disorder.

· Construct a mind map for the disorder you selected. Include the epidemiology, pathophysiology of alterations, risk factors, and clinical presentation, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of the disorder.

human development and socialization

Submit a 2- to 3-page paper in which you do the following:

  • Explain the differences in parenting style of “collectivist” and “individualist” parents.Describe how each couple would differ in their expectations of each of the children in their “new” household. In light of the differing styles and expectations, analyze points of conflict that would arise with the children when the parents swapped households and why (i.e., how the collectivist parents would respond to each of the individualist children, and how the individualist parents would react to each of the collectivist children).Compare the grandparents’ role in the collectivist family to the grandparents’ role in the individualist family.Analyze conflicts that the grandparents’ roles could cause when the parents swapped households and how the “new” mother and father might wish to change the existing roles.Describe how you think the show would end. Will anyone (i.e., parents, children, grandparents, or people watching the show) learn something from the experience? Is it possible to change cultural values? Explain your ideas and your reasoning.

Week 5 Project: Major developmental theories

Final Paper

You will need to find 4 articles located in scholarly journals. Scholarly journal articles are also referred as primary source peer reviewed articles. A scholarly journal article can be found in the South University Online Library. To find more information regarding utilizing the South University Library and accessing scholarly journal articles click on Library Guide. What cannot be used for this assignment are web pages, magazines, newspapers, text books, and other books. Finally, current research for our purposes is an article that was published within the last 5 to 6 years.

Remember this is a course on human development so when looking for articles make sure they are related to the subject matter covered in the course. To help in your search here are some of the major areas we covered in this course (these are meant as a guide, not specific topics to find).

  • Major developmental theories across the lifespanNature of geographic, gender, social, cognitive, emotional, and developmental factors during each period of developmentDevelopmental factors that impact one another.Historical and current trends in developmentCurrent trends which may differentially impact the future development of populations in the United StatesSocial, and diversity issues related to developmental psychology

With the major areas above in mind, focus on at least two of the following age groups:

  • ChildhoodAdolescenceAdulthoodOlder Adults

First, give an overview of each article, including:

  • Write a 2-paragraph summary for each article.Write a 1-2 paragraph analysis and evaluation for each article found.Make sure to integrate course material in that analysis

Then, write a summary (1-2 pages) integrating what was leaned from the articles reviewed on the chosen age groups as seen from the life-span perspective. Cover the following in that summary:

  • What similarities did you find in the types of research and what was being studied? What differences did you find?Based on your course readings, what developmental theories did you find that were applicable?Explain how the life-span perspective may provide a way of better understanding the research reviewed.

MOCK IRB APPLICATION EXERCISE

MOCK IRB APPLICATION EXERCISE-PT. 2

This is a 2 part assignment.  Complete the application and answer the questions listed below in a 3-page Word Document.

The previous completed application is attached with the blank one for this assignment.

Psychological experiments that are conducted on human or animal subjects must go through a review by an administrative body known as an Institutional Review Board (IRB).  Approval must be gained by an IRB before a study can be funded or conducted.  Researchers, whether they are faculty, students, or other affiliated personnel, must complete a detailed application that is presented to the IRB for its review.

APUS has an IRB, much like that of any research-producing university or institution.  Attached you will find an amended version of the actual application that researchers must submit to the IRB in advance of conducting psychological research. ***This is a mock version of the application.  You are not actually submitting anything to the real APUS IRB while conducting this exercise.

For Part 2 of this exercise, you will use the completed application attached completed earlier in the semester.  These are experiments that have already been conducted and published.  Several are “classic” experiments in social psychology of which you should already be aware.  You will read the published article carefully and then you will take the knowledge gleaned from the article to complete the IRB application AS IF you were the Principal Investigator applying for approval to conduct the study.

For some of the questions included on the application, you may need to “stretch” your knowledge a bit.  For example, the published article may say that college students were given extra credit for participation, but may not go into a lot of detail regarding the process used to recruit those students.  In such a situation, you may need to use your imagination to fill in some blanks.

In addition, please remember that the goal here is to put yourself in the principal investigator’s shoes at the time that he/she conducted the experiment.  If the experiment was conducted in the 1970s, for example, remember that the standards for human experimentation were different back then.  Answer the questions as the investigator WOULD have answered them (based upon what you read about the experiment), not as they SHOULD have answered them based upon today’s ethical standards.

Assignment Instructions (Please complete both #1 and #2 below)

1. After carefully reading your article (remember, use the same article attached), please complete the attached document.  The attached document is editable, so please place your responses directly into the document.  Be sure to save the document on your hard drive and then upload it into the slot for the assignment.

2. After completing the Mock IRB Assignment-Part 2, please answer the following questions in a 3-page Word Document (.docx format) and upload as an attachment to the slot for the assignment.

a. What was the most challenging section of the Mock IRB Application-Part 2 to complete?  Why was it challenging?

b. Were there any sections of the Mock IRB Application-Part 2 that you felt the authors of your article did not adequately address (either in terms of not doing it or not addressing it in their write-up of their Method/Procedure)?

c.  If you were actually the Principal Investigator of this study, what might you do differently in order to adequately address all the questions asked on Part 2 of this Mock IRB Application?

d. How do you think ethical standards have changed (if at all) since the Principal Investigator of your chosen study filled out his/her own IRB Application?

The Mozart Effect Assignment 3

The Mozart Effect

In this assignment, you will read an article about the Mozart effect and identify various parts of the research process. This exercise will help you learn how to read a research article and to understand the research process.

Read the following article:

  • Rauscher, F. H., Shaw, G. L., & Ky, K. N. (1993). Music and spatial task performance. Nature, 365. 6447: 611. (October 14, 1993). (ProQuest Document ID 76004658).

In your article summary, respond to the following questions:.

  • State the research hypothesis in your own words. Identify the independent and dependent variables. What were some variables the researchers controlled in their study? Why was this necessary? What evidence do the researchers offer as a test of their hypothesis? Is this evidence empirical (observable)? Is it valid? What explanation do the researchers offer for their findings? Does the evidence justify this explanation?

Read the following article:

Jenkins, J.S. (2001). The Mozart effect. Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, 94, 170-172.

Based on your readings, respond to the following:

  • Do you think there is any merit in the study (Rauscher, Shaw, & Ky, 1993)? Give three reasons for your position.Does the study take individual differences in spatial ability into account? Explain your answer. What are two ways in which the experiment could be modified to make the results more generalizable?

Write a 5–6-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M1_A3.doc.

By the due date assigned, deliver your assignment to the Submissions Area.

feminism needs to be ecological & environmental ethics should be feminist environmental ethics

feminism needs to be ecological and environmental ethics should be feminist environmental ethics – both are needed to be adequate.

Key ideas:

• A feminist issue is any issue that impacts women because of the social structure. She uses the

example of carrying water as a seemingly gender-neutral issue, however, since in most rural

societies men do not get the water, but women do, then a drought would disproportionately

affects women, making it a feminist issue. If men got water in equal measure to women, then it

carrying water would be gender-neutral – making it a culturally relative feminist issue.

• The heart of her article is the logic of domination. pg. 348-9, Warren provides the analytical

bones of arguments full of the logic of domination. See her quote, “[f[or any X and Y, if X if

morally superior to Y, then X is morally justified to dominate Y.” But if you are morally

superior – does that mean you have the right to dominate them? Think about the difference

between men and women. Historically, men have been treated as if they are morally superior,

and that is used to justify their domination.

• Warren uses two additional sections to develop err conclusion that feminism needs to be

ecologies and environmental ethics need to be feminist.

• See also Warren’s disagreement with Marilyn Frye, pg. 351-2, on the nature of love. Warren

believes love is not oneness but to value the relationship of differences. “The loving I knows
